Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetes is more than "elevated blood sugar". Diabetes affects the nerves, eyes, arteries, kidneys as well.

Diabetic patients often start complaining of tingling, numbness, burning or altered sensations in the soles and palms. The symptoms most often start in the soles. This usually implies the beginning of neuropathy.

Weakness, wasting (thinning of muscles) and gait disturbances may set in later on.

Treatment revolves around good control of the diabetes, foot care and medications.
